Brief CV

1994 to date Consultancy Independent consultant specializing in small-scale mining projects and mining community relations and development programs; descriptions of some consultancy assignments and experience are shown in a separate page. Presently managing an EU-Symin project on small-scale mining in Namibia, with the aim of developing the small-scale mining sector of the country. 1989 - 1994 Development Work Mining Advisor Intermediate Technology (ITDG) Seconded to Zimbabwe to develop and manage mining projects, and to recruit and induct local personnel. Main projects implemented included a service centre for small-scale miners (Shamva Mining Centre), institutional building of the country’s small-scale miming association, training and small R&D activities. Initiated and helped implement a Small-scale Mining Regional Advice project in northern Peru, which provided assistance to existing gold panners and farming communities who were shifting into rock salt and gypsum extraction and processing as another means of livelihood. Helped local counterparts in Kenya initiate and implement a stone quarry project aimed at improving productions and minimizing adverse environmental effects. Organized the production and publication of an equipment guidebook on small-scale mining and prepared information leaflets for small-scale miners. Represented the Group in local and international meetings, seminars and conferences. Main responsibility also includes project identification and development, preparation of project documents/proposals and sourcing of necessary funding.
