Brief CV

Alastair Macfarlane is a Mining Industry specialist in the area of Mineral Resource Management and the optimal planning and performance of mining operations and how this translates towards extracting maximum value for the business. This strategic intervention work has been conducted for many mining clients, in most sectors through the African and Australian mining industry. Strategic consultation at this level of business has been conducted in tandem with academic work, focussing on postgraduate teaching and research in areas of mine design, mining engineering, mining finance, mine optimisation and mineral resource management. This work is at the leading edge of these fields within the mining industry. All of this has been developed from an extensive history in senior management in the mining industry, stretching over 27 years, to the level of General Manager and Consultant. This experience has been drawn from managing operations in many mineral sectors, and has included the management of major new projects, large operating mines and older assets, all of which require different approaches to economic optimisation and management and include establishing Mineral Resource Management capacity in a large mining company. Alastair Macfarlane has served as a member of the International Valuation Standards Committee Extractive Industries Task Group tasked with developing a global standard for the Extractive Industries.
