Brief CV

Dr John Knight is a long term member of the CMAL team specializing in international coal sector appraisal, due diligence and Stock Exchange disclosure reporting for coal companies. John is a geologist (Eur. Geol.) with over 35 years coal sector experience. After completion of post-graduate studies he worked in coal industry operations in Spain and UK before joining International Mining Consultants. After a number of years of managing international coal exploration and multidisciplinary feasibility studies he became Director of Business Development and later Director of Geology and Mining for IMC Group. In 1999 he resigned to join UK Coal plc with responsibility for international consultancy, and later moved to the Petrofac Group, undertaking environmental and management training roles in the mining and oil and gas sectors. Since 2008 he has worked independently through his company Harworth Minerals Consultancy while collaborating closely within the CMAL structure. He has wide experience of the evaluation of major coal projects worldwide, including in the Asia-Pacific Region (China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, New Zealand), Africa (Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia), South America (Colombia, Venezuela), North America (USA), Europe (UK, Poland, Spain) and the Former Soviet Union (Russia, Ukraine). These projects have included the leadership and preparation of Mineral Expert’s Reports for listings on the London, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Melbourne ASX and New York stock exchanges, in addition to reporting to major financial institutions and the preparation of appraisal documentation in support of acquisition strategy for major coal producers and consumers. John was author of the Mining Annual Review International Coal Report for the Mining Journal group for the years 2003, 2004 and 2005. He was also Project Director for the UK Government funded Worldwide Technology Status Report on Coal Preparation as part of the Cleaner Coal Technology Programme. Within the last two years John has undertaken appraisal of major US coking coal operations on behalf of a leading Russian steel producer, evaluation of reserves and resources in three large Russian coal deposits, including on behalf of a major Indian steel company, strategic appraisal of two Colombian coal prospects and detailed resource evaluation and risk appraisal of the operations and prospects of two of the leading coal producers in UK.
